Olive and oil has been one of my favourite places in Hillcrest to eat for quite some time, even my boyfriend and I had our first date there and I've spent multiple birthday dinners there by my selection. I have never had a bad meal there or bad service up until yesterday. Their seafood has always been great and prepared so well.
I know that COVID and lockdown regulations have hurt all of us in some way or another but that doesn't justify serving bad food. There is no better time than right now to be serving the best food your kitchen could possibly produce than right now when there is less patronage and less people who simply don't have the money to eat out like they did pre-COVID. Serving good food will only keep the limited clientele that are in the marketing for eating out at highly regarded restaurant (4.4 star rating on Google) as frequent customers.
Yesterday we were celebrating my best friends birthday and we picked Olive and Oil Hillcrest to be the place of her birthday dinner. The restaurant had 3 big tables and 6 small occupied. The atmosphere was the norm - relaxing and classy. The waiter was great, he did exactly what he was supposed to and treated us with respect and expertise. The problems started when we waited 1hr 30min for 4 burgers and 2 seafood platters. In that 1hr and 30min I didn't see a single other table with food in front of them. When the food eventually arrived; the burgers were dry and some were even burnt to a crisp, there was no sauce or any sort of moisture in the burger and plating was below par for a restaurant of their capacity. The seafood, as per usual, was prepared brilliantly. We sent back one of the burgers and received another one in just a few minutes, so I am not sure why it took so long to make them in the first place. When we asked for sauces only tomato sauce and chili sauce was brought. I ended up squeezing lemon on mine just to have some taste.
I decided to voice my disappointment in Olive and Oil Hillcrest because I know that they can do better. I believe in the restaurant and would not like to see the restaurant close due to no customers. If our experience can encourage the kitchen at Olive and Oil to do a better job and keep its customers then my mission has succeed.
Olive and Oil management - do better because I know that you can.
and remember to love yourself first,
Love Amber
